How Sedation Dentistry Saves Time

RECENTLY I OVERHEARD someone compare a dental visit to shoveling snow off the driveway—you don’t really like it but you know it needs to be done. Well, in response to that idea we thought of a little analogy of our own:

What if every time it snowed you could snap your fingers, and presto! A clear driveway?

Although it doesn’t work quite as miraculously, sedation dentistry works in much the same way, with results that are almost as fast.

Sedation dentistry has proven helpful to a variety of patients, and for a variety of procedures. Sedation dentistry often makes people feel like their dental visit only lasted a few minutes—when in fact, they may have been here for hours. There are many different forms of sedation dentistry, and we work with you to determine what’s best for you. In some cases, sedation can be much like anesthesia during surgery. But more often, sedation doesn’t actually put you to sleep. Most patients who choose sedation dentistry are awake, functional, and responsive.

One of the biggest benefits to sedation dentistry is that procedures that typically take multiple visits can now be accomplished in just one visit—saving you time and hassle. And obviously, the second biggest benefit is that patients who experience different levels of dental anxiety can better relax and resolve their worries or fears.

Drs. Hammond and Ellis are very proud of, and confident in, the sedation methods they use. They stay on the leading edge of this type of service—constantly updated their skills and techniques.
