Halloween Can Teach Kids About Nutrition, Oral Health, AND Helping Others
EACH YEAR, HERE AT HAMMOND & ELLIS, we give kids and parents a post-Halloween alternative to sugar binges! After Halloween, kids can come by our office and trade in excess candy to be entered to win a great prize! This year, it’s a $100 Toys-R-Us gift card!
Kids’ global sugar consumption increases by about 2% annually and currently sits at 50 million tons per year, which means parents need to be sure their kids’ teeth are being cared for more than ever.
Candy, in addition to damaging kids’ teeth, can lead to hyperactivity, weight gain, and can contribute to or complicate diabetes. In some cases, the wrong types of candy also lead to broken teeth and damaged braces.
The average trick-or-treater can consume up to three cups of sugar from Halloween candy! So what can be done to help? Kids can still dress up, go out, have fun and yes, even eat SOME candy. But, after picking out their favorites (many kids have up to five pounds left, and nobody needs that much candy) they can trade the rest in!
- EVENT: Sweet Swap
- LOCATION: Hammond & Ellis
- DATES: Monday, November 1st through Wednesday, November 3rd
- TIMES: 8:00am to 5:00pm
PLUS, all of the candy will be donated to the Food and Care Coalition of Provo AND TO Hugs For Soldiers.
