Dr. Hammond & Ellis Help With Sleep Problems

SNORING CAN BE CAUSED BY A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT THINGS… From something as simple as an allergy or a cold, to things that are more complex (and may require more treatment) such asrestricted airflow through the nose and/or throat due to your genetics. Sometimes the problem can be remedied by doing something as easy as changing your sleeping position. Sometimes, surgical removal of obstructions such as enlarged tonsils will make a difference. In more serious cases, snoring can be caused by sleep apnea. Determining the cause of your snoring problems is something Dr. Ellis and Dr. Hammond are ready to help you with.
Finding the right method to stop snoring requires the correct diagnosis. Let us help diagnose the cause of your snoring and help find the snoring or apnea treatment to help you stop. Based on your needs and level of symptoms Drs. Hammond and Ellis will find a snoring and/or sleep apnea treatment that can help you stop snoring in order to provide you (and those around you!) with a full night’s rest.
Sleep Apnea Can Cause Snoring
Sleep apnea occurs when a person’s lungs are not getting the amount of air they need, resulting in breaks in your sleeping pattern. There are three types of sleep apnea—obstructive, central, and complex.
The most common form of sleep apnea is obstructive sleep apnea. When throat muscles relax and cause restricted airflow it causes snoring because of the limited air exchange. Laying on a your side or propped up at an angle can help by decreasing the amount of gravity pulling on the throat muscles. The problem many people with sleep apnea experience is the muscles restricting the throat completely, making breathing completely stop for period of time. Although your brain wakes you up so that normal breathing can begin again, you may never feel like you get a good night’s sleep!
Take a look:
Central sleep apnea happens when a person’s brain fails to send the correct signals to breathing control muscles. As with some forms of obstructive sleep apnea (above), this can cause breathing during sleep to pause. Complex sleep apnea is simply a combination of obstructive and central.
